Help Ridge Ponini carry the spirit of the Cook Islands to the OPERA world stage.
Ridge is one of us. He grew up here in Rarotonga, surrounded by the people, culture, faith, and values that make our islands special. Now, through incredible talent, determination, and years of hard work, Ridge has been given an opportunity that few people ever receive — a place at the prestigious National Opera Studio in London.
From more than 700 applicants around the world, Ridge was selected to audition in London. After performing pieces in Italian, German, French and a Cook Islands favourite, Mou Piri, he was chosen to join this world-class programme for nine months of advanced training alongside some of the most promising young opera artists internationally.
This is a huge achievement — not just for Ridge, but for all of us.
When Ridge steps onto the stage in London, he carries more than his own dreams. He carries the pride of his family, his community, and the Cook Islands.
He carries our stories.
He carries our culture.
He carries the belief that someone from a small island in the Pacific can stand among the best in the world.
Ridge has always believed that his gift is something to be shared. This opportunity allows him to continue developing his voice, grow as an artist, and represent the Cook Islands on an international stage.
But getting to London and completing this training comes with significant costs.
The immediate priority is to help Ridge and his partner, Josephine Marearai, through their first nine months as they make the immense transition from Rarotonga to London and establish themselves in a completely new environment.
We are asking our Cook Islands community — those at home and those living around the world — to come together and help Ridge make the most of this opportunity.
